Events in July in paradise are light and bright and family focused. The time of the Canicula (a usually three week period of sunny skies in the midst of the rainy season) is a quiet time with few tourists. Communities are turning attention to preparing for the end of school terms and the beginning of a summer break. Time moves even more slowly than usual with an extra, relaxed grace. For those who love the opportunity of going deeper into a local experience, and are undaunted by slightly higher temperatures, it’s a wonderful peaceful time to visit. Hotels and restaurants are open and often offering enticing discounts.

For the young – the summer rocks! There’s surfing and diving, and, lots of pool parties and concerts. Check the schedule below.

Wednesday, July 1, CANADA DAY: Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has a significant population of Canadian residents and visitors who will be celebrating their national day on July 1st, the official independence day of Canada.  On July 1, 1867, with passage of the British North America Act, the Dominion of Canada was officially established as a self-governing entity within the British Empire. Happy Birthday, Canada!

Saturday, July 4, 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at the LOOT in Zihuatanejo: “Little Jesus” band is the official musical ambassador for the LOOT. This group recently performed in Austin, Texas, and is now launching a tour to Europe and South America.

Saturday, July 4, USA INDEPENDENCE DAY: Ixtapa Zihuatanejo’s American residents and visitors will celebrate the national “Fourth of July” holiday commemorating the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. The Fourth of July is celebrated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States.

Saturday, July 11, 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at the LOOT in Zihuatanejo: “Noche Fanzine” will include a pool party, dancing, and showing of the surfing film, “GONE”. Come out and enjoy!

July 15 – August 7, 9:00 a.m. – 12 Noon, SUMMER WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN at the Instituto Municipal de la Cultura (Culture House) in Zihuatanejo: It’s a time for fun and laughter! July – August, SUMMER VACATION AT THE CHILDREN’S LIBRARY in Zihuatanejo: Daily activities for children will be offered at the newly remodeled library in central Zihuatanejo. Children will learn how to express themselves in a positive manner. There will be workshops on tolerance, understanding and peace. Your kids will enjoy this wonderful experience.

Starting July 14, ADULT DANCING CLASSES at Instituto e la Danza Mexicana: Put on your dance shoes and come out and learn authentic Mexican folklore dancing. Call (755) 121-1339 for registration.

Saturday, July 18, 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at the LOOT in Zihuatanejo: “La Lechuga” is a comedy presented by César Sierra. Humor is very cultural and difficult to understand in another language. You need to know Spanish to enjoy this one.

Saturday, July 25, 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., SUMMER CONCERT SERIES at the LOOT in Zihuatanejo: Tropical artist Caloncho returns to the LOOT with his creativity and inspiration. Enjoy an unforgettable night of rhythms and dancing!
