State to Receive the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainable Tourism Award

Save Our Environment! No More Single-Use Plastics

As of October 3, 2019, the State of Guerrero now prohibits ALL single-use plastics from being dispensed by grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, auto service centers, convenience stores, or any other type of business. Guerrero includes the tourist destinations of Acapulco, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, and Taxco.    

Single-use plastic items that are now prohibited include:

  • Drink cups and tops
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic bottles
  • Straws
  • Knives, forks, and spoons

The State of Guerrero to Receive Amig@s de la Paz Sustainable Tourism Award

The Amig@s de la Paz Sustainable Tourism Award Program is a new initiative of the May Peace Prevail on Earth International™ foundation. The Award is designed to honor and recognize communities, individuals, civic organizations, educational institutions, and businesses that have contributed to sustainable tourism in the following categories:

  1. Sustainable growth and environmental
    protection
  2. Cultural heritage and diversity
  3. Equitable access to quality education/ Peace
    education
  4. Economic empowerment and/or investment

The first Amig@s de la Paz Sustainable Tourism Award Ceremony & Tourism Event will be held in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico, on February 16, 2020, in collaboration with the city’s Art & Cultural Association. Invitations will be sent to United Nations groups, media, peace centers, universities, and travel groups around the world.

Governor Lic. Héctor Astudillo Flores of the State of Guerrero will receive the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainable Tourism Award for this achievement and contribution to environmental protection.

Environmental protection is a Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations.
