Imagine telling the story of Mexico and never mentioning the Aztecs or Mayans. Well, for over 500 years, the presence of Africans in Mexico has seldom been told. Every November for the past 20 years, there is an annual meeting of the Black Towns of Mexico (Encuentro de Los Pueblos Negros). The purpose of this conference is to promote their history and culture and to continue the movement for political, social, and economic equality. Due to health concerns, this year, the event will be held online. We are featuring several stories this month so that you can learn more about this  “invisible” culture.
