Don’t forget that Mexico has much more than just people! Mexico is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. Its deserts, tropical rainforests, mangrove swamps, mountain areas, and oceans support a wide range of reptiles, mammals, animals, and marine life.

Mexico has the world’s most diverse collection of reptiles, with 717 known reptile species of which 574 of them are only found in Mexico. It is the #2 country in the world for the diversity of mammals, with 502 species, and #4 in amphibians, with 290 known species.

Mexico is home to 290 bird species, with 1,150 avian varieties. Mexico is #4 worldwide in flora, with 26,000 known species.

The coasts of Mexico support a wide variety of marine life, including wide-ranging whales and dolphins, coastal-dwelling manatees, fish including tarpon and snapper, and invertebrates such as shellfish, corals, and worms.

So, let’s take a virtual tour of some of the animals, birds, lizards, bees, and trees!  (Videos are courtesy of Juan Rojo/ Ron Woheau.)
