What a Surprise!

One of the most popular genres of music today is Hip-Hop. This style of music originated in the predominantly African American community in the South Bronx section of New York City in the late 1970s.

Rock & Roll is another genre of popular music that evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It originated from African-American music such as jazz, rhythm and blues, boogie-woogie, gospel, and country music.

Metal music began in the late 1960s and rose to prominence in the early 70s in Britain. The term “metal” is believed to have come from the hippie movement when “heavy” meant deep or serious.

These forms of music are international and are performed in many languages around the world, but when we think of indigenous languages like Nahuatl or Otomí, we usually associate them with more traditional songs or ceremonial songs from pre-Hispanic Mexico
