Constitution Day in Mexico

A national holiday in Mexico, all public offices, schools, and banks are closed on this date. Constitution Day has special meaning for the residents of Guerrero. Vicente Guerrero helped to lead the revolution from Spain, helped to write the country’s constitution, and abolished human slavery in the country. President Vicente Ramón Guerrero Saldaña, who was of African descent, was born in 1782 in Tixtla, a city northeast of Acapulco, in what is today his namesake state of Guerrero.
