Michigan Man Moves to Oaxaca to Teach English

Giving back – Isn’t that what the world is about?

Geryn Childress is one of Amazon’s best-selling authors with eight of his children’s books topping Amazon’s 100 bestsellers list for years. Geryn was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA, and shortly thereafter moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, with his mother and older brother. He played a doctor on the popular ’90s television series “Angels of Mercy” with Blair Underwood and Vivica A. Fox.

Geryn is an author, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, but he is most proud of being a father of four wonderful children. Together, in 1993, they started their own family business, a production company called, “Melanin Productions”.

In 2019, Geryn moved to Oaxaca, Mexico, where he can run his business via the Internet. He has been consulting with schools and helping students all over the world.

The company’s goal is to help a billion people improve their reading skills in the next 10 years. Studies have shown children who can read and write English have more opportunities to advance their lives. That is the goal of “MP Publishing”.

The Childress Reading Wheel – How is Works

The Childress Reading Wheel is a hand-manipulated device that when rotated, forms every conceivable sound in English, as well as thousands of words. It is a perfect tool for both teaching and learning English correctly.

The Reading Wheels were first invented by Geryn’s mother, Marilyn Childress in the ’70s, who used paper plates. Mrs. Childress was a pioneer in television and politics in Pontiac, Michigan, who helped countless children and adults improve their literacy skills with her invention. She lost her battle to cancer in 1998.

Geryn aims to carry on his mother’s legacy of educating those less fortunate around the world so that they can have an opportunity to better their lives. He re-designed and updated the “The Childress Reading Wheels,” and now offers them online through their website www.childressreadingwheels.com

The Childress Reading Wheel consist of eight separate wheels that are inter-changeable.

1. The Root Wheel (contains all the consonants, double blends, and triple blends.)

2. The five Vowel Wheels A, E, I, O, U (separated between long and short sounds)

3. The Suffix and Prefix Wheels (for advanced study only)

There are a variety of ways that teachers can incorporate the Reading Wheels into their lesson plans. Suggested teaching methods are provided online, or you can use your own creativity to design your own custom lessons with the Wheels, the choice is yours.
