Your Community Can Apply

By Patricia Ann Talley, Editor and International Director of the Amig@s de la Paz Program

The May Peace Prevail on Earth International™ foundation has launched a new initiative, the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainability Award Program” that is designed to recognize and promote communities that actively support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This program is especially important in tourism communities.

May Peace Prevail on Earth International is a global not-for-profit charity that develops and promotes peace activities for communities and youth. The foundation’s primary mission is to plant Peace Poles in communities around the world. There are over 200,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world.

Along with its affiliates Peace Pals International ™ and the Goi Peace Organization of Japan, the foundation also conducts an annual international art contest for children and tour of the artwork, an annual essay contest for youth, and international youth conference webinars. The foundation and its affiliates are members of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

To apply for the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainability Award, the community/city must first:

  1. Designate a Peace Representative for May Peace Prevail on Earth
  2. Erect and maintaining a Peace Pole or Monument in a prominent location
  3. Celebrate the annual International Day of Peace on September 21
  4. Participate in Peace Education programs

When these requirements have been met, the community can then nominate individuals, businesses, civil organizations, or educational institutions to receive the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainability Award.

Zihuatanejo, Southfield, Chicago, and San Diego are Amig@s!

Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico, was the first community to receive the Amig@s de la Paz Sustainability Award and serves as a model for the world. Southfield, Michigan, Chicago, and San Diego have also joined the Amig@s family. The communities have constructed peace poles and met the requirements of the program.

Alliance with Club Rotary of Mexico

May Peace Prevail on Earth International entered into a collaboration agreement with Club Rotary of Mexico to build peace monuments in seven states throughout the republic.

Each Peace Pole Monument represents a commitment from the community to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals with programs for its residents, youth, and tourists.

Tourism Goals

The goal of the Amig@s de la Paz Program is to generate sustainable tourism between the participating cities. Tourists can travel to these cities knowing that the communities are actively supporting the UN’s Sustainable Tourism Goals.
