Mexico City is breathtaking! – Its size, its history, the culture, the food! It is an international cosmopolitan city with residents and visitors from all around the world. A visit to Mexico City should be on everyone’s “bucket list.”

Some people think of Mexico as only having small villages or towns and have no idea about this cosmopolitan city. Mexico City, or “Ciudad de México”, abbreviated CDMX, is the capital of Mexico. Mexico City is one of the largest and most important cultural and financial centers in the Americas.

Mexico City is enormous! It is the sixth-largest city in the world, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, and the largest Spanish-speaking city in the world. It is located in the Valley of Mexico (Valle de México in the high plateaus in the center of Mexico, at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,350 ft.). It has a land area of 1,485 square kilometers (573 sq. mi) with 16 boroughs.

With a metropolitan population of 22,085,000, Mexico City is larger than Beijing, China (21,333,000), New York (18,937,000), or Los Angeles (13,000,000).

Mexico City is one of the most important economic centers in Spanish-speaking America. The city produces around 21.8% Gross Domestic Product of the country and is ranked as the eighth-richest urban agglomeration in the world after Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris, London, and Osaka/Kobe.

The main industries of the city are related to construction and the production of iron and steel, textiles and yarn, plastics, furniture, and cement. There is also an international tourism industry. The city is home to the headquarters of the country’s largest banks, insurers, and financial service companies. Most major international corporations like Microsoft, Sony, etc. also have business centers in the city.

Mexico City is an international center. It is home to over 200 foreign embassies and consulate offices. Since it is an international business center, there are many different people from all around the world who live and work there. I visited China Town, a Jewish area, a Japanese business center, and an international food and textile festival.
