WOW! There are so many events and activities happening in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo in February. This month, the town will host the Zihuatanejo Sailfest to benefit the educational programs in the community. The town is full of international tourists from Canada and the United States who come to escape the cold weather up north. Anytime is a good time in Mexico!
Friday, February 3, 5:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., DANCE IN THE STREET! On Calle Adelita in front of Ruben’s Hamburgers in Playa la Madera: Get your party down! Come out and dance – for a great cause. This is a fundraiser to help purchase medical equipment for Zihuatanejo’s ambulances. The medical equipment includes a defibrillator and patient monitor. This year’s recipient of the medical equipment is an ambulance from Hospital General in Zihuatanejo. Admission is a $100 pesos donation. It will be an evening of fun. Entertainment includes Shady, Mark and Andy Show, and XPRESION INMUNE. Events include:

Sunday, February 7 – Sunday, February 14, ZIHUATANEJO SAILFEST: Sponsored by Por Los Niños Educational Charity, this annual event has raised funds to build 100 classrooms for disadvantaged kids in Zihuatanejo. During ever event, buy $10 peso raffle tickets for thousands of pesos in great prizes, all donated by local merchants to benefit children’s education. Drawings are held during all major events. Saturday, February 11, 6:00 p.m., MEXICARTE CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT at the Casa de la Cultura (Culture House). Enjoy a fabulous evening of classical entertainment by MexicArte Ensemble from the Mexican Music Conservatory. Casa de la Cultura is located on Cinco de Mayo Street in central Zihuatanejo. Tuesday, February 14, OBSERVANCE FOR PRESIDENT VICENTE GUERRERO & FRIENDSHIP/VALENTINE’S DAY: Traditionally, this date has been celebrated with Cupid, chocolates, and special dinners for your sweetheart. But now, in Mexico and many other parts of the world, people are stopping to remember a great leader and champion of liberty and human rights, President Vicente Guerrero, who was executed on this date in 1831. He abolished human slavery in Mexico, and fought for a new order of equality and dignity for all people. Like many other civil rights activists, he was murdered by his enemies who wanted to retain the caste system of social and economic order.
Friday, February 17, 10:00 a.m., COOKING WORKSHOP FOR ECO-SUSTAINABILITY: Enjoy the food of love! Participate in this ecological cooking workshop, and then enjoy the meal afterwards! The event includes the workshop, video, and meal. Donations are $60 pesos and funds go to support the local Humane Society of Zihuatanejo. Tuesday, February 21, DIA INTERNATIONAL DE LA LENGUA MATERNA (International Mother Language Day): There are a variety of different races and ethnic groups living in the State of Guerrero with cultural and linguistic expressions that have given the area a very special image. There are approximately 600,000 indigenous people living in Guerrero, about 20% of the total population of the state. There are more than 20 different native languages spoken by its inhabitants, but the principal one spoken is Náhuatl.
