Special Events in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico – July 2016

Events in July in paradise are light, bright, and family focused. The time of the Canicula (a usually three week period of sunny skies in the midst of the rainy season) is a quiet time with few tourists. Communities are turning attention to preparing for the end of school terms and the beginning of a summer break.

Time moves even more slowly than normal with an extra, relaxed grace. For those who love the opportunity of going deeper into a local experience, and are undaunted by slightly higher temperatures, it’s a wonderful peaceful time to visit. Hotels and restaurants are open and often offering enticing discounts.

Friday, July 15, WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY: The UN estimates that the number of unemployed youth globally reached 74.5 million in 2013, the majority of whom live in developing countries. According to the International Labor organization, young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. One in five youths, or 125 million, are working, but live in extreme poverty (on less than US $1/day). The issue of youth unemployment is a major concern for both industrialized and developing countries.

Skills development is a primary means of enabling young people to make a smooth transition to work.
