Tuesday and Wednesday, October 1-2, SEMI-FINALS FOR MEXICO’S 4TH ANNUAL CHEF OF THE YEAR at Barceló Hotel in Ixtapa: The Chef of the Year competition (Concurso Concineo del Año de México CCMM) is designed by professional chefs and is one of the most prestigious gastronomical events in Mexico. Participants will have their recipes judged on factors such as the flavor, texture, nutritional quality, harmony of components, originality and the utilization of Mexican ingredients and cooking techniques.
This year-long competition that began in June 2013 consists of seven (7) Semi-final events, held in different parts of the country, leading up to the final competition to be held in Mexico City in June 2014. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is host to the second of the Semi-final competitions that will include 12 chefs from the states of Guerrero, Michoacán and Morelos.
The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. each day at Barceló Hotel in Ixtapa. All activities, including conferences, cooking demonstration and the competition, are open to the public and free of charge. Every Saturday Starting October 5, 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., ECO-TIANGUIS SANKA LOCAL AND ‘GREEN PRODUCTS’ EXHIBITION AND SALE at Cancha Municipal (main basketball court) in Zihuatanejo: “Eco” (ecological) “Tianguis (fair) “Sanka” (local to Zihuatanejo) is an exhibition and sale of organic foods and “green products” produced by local farmers and vendors. In response to the growing need for food products that are free of chemicals and pesticides, local farmers have adopted healthier methods of cultivation that are more responsible toward people, the planet and our community.
Eco-Tianguis Sanka allows farmers to share their products directly with the public with minimum middlemen. The fair gives culinary artisans a place to showcase their creations and a chance to create new business relationships. And, visitors have the opportunity to sample and purchase healthy products in a recreational and cultural environment. Come out and support your local community!
The week of October 7-12, FREE NUTURING CAMPAIGN BY SPAZ, ZIHUATANEJO’S HUMANE SOCIETY: Help spread the word! The goal is to have 300 animals neutered. Volunteers are needed to distribute flyers to local communities so that more people will bring in their animals. Flyers and animal neutering services are offered at “Casa Marina”, next to the basketball court in Zihuatanejo. While there, make a donation!
Friday – Sunday, October 25 – 27, CAMPUS YOGA 2013 in Ixtapa: Campus Yoga is a three-day event that brings different disciplines and holistic practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Meditation, Alternative Medicine, Food and Music together. The event consists of conferences and classes taught by renowned yoga teachers such as TV personality Alejandro Maldonado, complemented by a series of related activities.
The event´s program and activities will be take place in Ixtapa at Azul Ixtapa Beach Resort, Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa and Emporio Hotel with different activities in each hotel. Continuing until February, UNITED NATIONS EDUCATION FOR PEACE PROGRAM FOR IXTAPA ZIHUATANEJO: Visitors & Conventions Bureau and the City of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, México have launched a variety of free workshops and activities for children and young adults as part of the United Nations “Education for Peace” program. Continuing until February 2014, the community’s “Education for Peace” program is designed to inspire personal growth and development, respect for diversity, and conservation of the environment.
