The international tourist season for Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is starting with many visitors coming from the cold climates in the United States and Canada. The upcoming months are full of special events and activities! Be sure to make your reservations early to come and enjoy our wonderful paradise.
Thursday, October 31 – Saturday, November 2, “DÍA DE MUERTOS”/ DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATION: Families throughout Mexico will celebrate “Día de Muertos” or Day of the Dead this month. It is a time for the family to pray, to remember and to honor their loved ones who came before. This holiday is as important to Mexicans as Thanksgiving is to Americans and Canadians. It’s a time when people travel long distances to be with their families, some coming from as far away as the northern US.
There is absolutely no connection between Day of the Dead and Halloween. In fact, many Mexican families dislike the modern day promotion of Halloween because it distracts from the tradition of the Day of the Dead holiday. Towns throughout Mexico are colorfully decorated with flowers and families build altars to honor their loved ones.
Many restaurants and hotels in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo will also host special dinners and events.
