Friday, December 14, 2013, 3rd ANNUAL PLAYA BLANCA AUDUBON BIRD COUNT hosted by El Refugio de Potosi Wildlife Preserve: This is an international citizen science project that has been occurring for 113 years. People all around the world take the day to identify their bird species and count every individual bird seen within the count range. That information is sent on to Audubon and complied to create a reading of the status of bird populations. Birds are important indicators of the health of our planet. Early signs of significant changes in bird populations help conservationists formulate plans to act to maintain the chain of life that keeps all of us living.
Huge numbers of birds from Alaska, Canada and the USA migrate to Mexico each fall. Many of the birds you see at home spend their winter here among us, or at least pass through this region on their way further south. It is important to know how they fare. Last year, there were only 21 areas in Mexico that participated in this global survey. We are the only count in Guerrero.
Please join in on the count! Contact Laurel Patrick at email@example.com for more information. Read this related article: El Refugio Wildlife Preserve Teaches Conservation to Students, Residents and Visitors in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo
