Saturday, June 1, 9:00 a.m., DIA DE LA MARINA NACIONAL (NATIONAL MARINE DAY) at the Zihuatanejo Pier: A national holiday, Marine Day is a solemn occasion for the whole nation of México when the National Flag is hoisted at full mast. Zihuatanejo has been an important port since colonial times. There is a navy station at the port and a Naval Hospital in Ixtapa. In 1942, the first of June was established as Marine Day in tribute to all, who with their work, personal sacrifice, participation and cooperation at all levels, contributed to the birth and consolidation of the maritime sector in the country. The ceremony in Zihuatanejo pays tribute to our local navy personnel and the fishermen, tour operators, watersports operators, marine merchants and others who care for our oceans and waters. Everyone is invited to attend.
Saturday, June 1, 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., RAP & ROLL MOTOFEST at Centro Social in Zihuatanejo: For motorcycle enthusiasts, this event will include a display of 150 different motorcycles from around the country. There will also be a musical concert with artists like Pato Machete Fundador, vocalist group Control Machete and rapper Gómez Palacio Durango. Admission is $120 Pesos.
Sunday, June 2, 6:00 p.m., CLOSING CEREMONY FOR THE LOVE REVOLUTION at Cancha Municipal (basketball court) in Zihuatanejo: A LOVE REVOLUTION has been happening in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo. For the past several weeks, Centro de Familiar Ixtapa conducted a variety of activities for the community to demonstrate that love conquers all. People of all faiths and who strive for a better life in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo have a powerful reason in common: We LOVE our city! Everyone is invited to participate in the closing ceremonies. Tuesday, June 4, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., FUNDRAISER FOR OWEN LEE at Barracruda Bar (formerly Rick’s Bar, across from basketball court): Owen Lee recently had a severe stroke and desperately needs medical help and rehab. He is paralyzed on his right side and cannot speak. Owen is a legend in Zihuatanejo, first arriving here over 40 years ago, working in diving and sea exploration. Autographed books written by Owen will be on sale. Local musicians like Jose Luis Cobo and Jimmy Mamou will perform. Items will be auctioned. A donation of $50 Pesos (or more) is requested at the door. Come and enjoy great music and help a local friend.
Saturday, June 8, TRIATLÓN IXTAPA 2013 at El Palmar Beach and through the streets of Ixtapa: The event starts early in the morning and lasts until late afternoon. The main streets in Ixtapa are closed to traffic most of the day, so if you live in Ixtapa, plan ahead. It is best to walk to see this event, one of the most important of its type in Latin America.

The community of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has a Clean Beach Certification Program to promote the conservation of natural resources and good practices among visitors and providers of services. Thursday, June 13, “100 DAY COUNTDOWN” TO THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE: The 100 day countdown to the International Day of Peace on September 21st begins June 13th. This year the International Day of Peace (IDP) theme is Education for Peace. During this month, we encourage you to visit and meditate at the Peace Pole Monument, located in Zihuatanejo, next to the Archeological Museum. It bears the inscription, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” in the native Náhuatl language, Spanish, French and English. The date varies between June 20 and June 22, depending on the year. The June solstice occurs when the sun is at its furthest point from the equator – it reaches its northernmost point and the Earth’s North Pole tilts directly towards the sun. The June solstice day has the longest hours of daylight for those living north of the equator and marks the first day of the summer season in the northern hemisphere.
