Friday – Sunday, December 1, 2, & 3, 3:00 p.m., RUCCO SURFER REUNION at Playa Linda: If you are a participant, you can register at Catcha O’La Surf School in Ixtapa. For more information, contact (755) 115 1901 (English is spoken). If you are an observer, you’ll have so much fun watching this event! Get up early and catch a wave!

Friday & Saturday, December 1 & 2, 2017, 7:00 p.m., “MEXICO’S GOT TALENT” COMPETITION: Who are the best Blues and Rock performers In Ixtapa Zihuatanejo? Who deserves to be on the big stage with the international performers at the Tequila Blues Explosion Festival in January 2018?

The Tequila Blues Explosion Festival is holding “Mexico’s Got Talent Fun Night Battles” on Friday, December 1, and Saturday, December 2, 2017.  The December 1st event will be at Frank’s Restaurant in Ixtapa starting at 7:30 p.m. On December 2nd, the event will be at Legendz Restaurant y Bar in Zihuatanejo at 7:00 p.m.

The talent shows are free to attend. The festival organizers want to give something back to the local community, so, donations at the door will go toward children’s laptops and tablets, and musical equipment. Deserving children with obvious potential will be selected by recommendation from local teachers and principals and local community groups like Rotary.

Tickets are on sale for the Tequila Blues Explosion on January 5-8, 2018.

Saturday & Sunday, December 2 & 3, 2017, 5:00 p.m., WELLNESS FEST: Enjoy meditation, yoga, music and more at the Wellness Fest in Ixtapa on Playa el Palmar on Saturday, December 1 at 5:00 p.m., and again in Zihuatanejo on Playa la Ropa on Sunday, December 2 at 5:00 p.m. Entrance is FREE!

Jardin del Eden Restaurant is located in the Hacienda Eden Hotel in Troncones. Turn right at the beach road and follow it to the end.

Saturday, December 9, 2017, 5:00 p.m., INAUGURATION OF MAINSTREET ZIHUATANEJO: Downtown Zihua has a new look! Join the community (at the former main bus stop) to celebrate our newly remodeled streets with tropical foliage. There will be activities for the whole family!

Tuesday, December 12, DAY OF THE VIRGIN OF GUADALUPE: People from throughout the country travel to the Basilica of the Virgen of Guadalupe located in Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo, a northern neighborhood of Mexico City, where they celebrate the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) with a mass ceremony and a traditional fair in her honor. Parades and masses will be held in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and throughout the local area. The holiday is a national fiesta that includes traditional music and fun attractions.

The holiday is a remembrance of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to Juan Diego, a young indigenous man, who on December 12, 1531, had a vision of her while walking. The Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego was a young woman with black hair and dark skin which looked more like an indigenous person. Mary became the patron saint of Mexico in 1746. The Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe became a national holiday in Mexico in 1859.

Monday, December 18, 2017, INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY: On December 18th of every year, the United Nations and member states recognize International Migrants Day. In 2017, the International Organization for Migrants celebrates its 65th anniversary. This organization was formed in 1951 to help relocated Europeans following World War II. Over the many years, the IOM has helped to relocate and settle migrant populations in Hungary, Africa, Chile, South Asia, Kuwait, Rwanda, and other countries around the world.

Sunday, December 31, 2017, starting at 11:00 p.m., FIREWORKS! The annual fireworks show will take place on the beaches of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. Make reservations at your favorite restaurant, or take a blanket and champagne to the beach and just hang out! It’s a wonderful experience in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.


Thursdays & Saturdays, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., MUSIC, ART, FOOD & DANCE in Ixtapa: Ixtapa ROCKS! Join us every weekend for a cultural festival full of art, music, food, and entertainment. Activities take place at the kiosk in front of Nueva Zelanda Restaurant in Ixtapa. (No event on December 24 and 31.)  

Every Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., ORGANIC MARKET AT TRES MUJERES HOTEL IN TRONCONES: You can spend a wonderful morning and afternoon along the tropical beach in Troncones. Take a taxi. Enjoy the great organic foods grown locally. Entry is free. Bring a recyclable bag.

Every Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. ECO TIANGUIS ORGANIC FOOD MARKET, PRODUCTS, & ENTERTAINMENT, across from the museum in Zihuatanejo:  It’s a local meeting spot! Enjoy organic food; buy fresh vegetables, honey, and ecological products. Sing, dance, and enjoy life by the ocean. Saturday, December 31 at Midnight, FIREWORKS! You can see them from the beach in Zihuatanejo or in Ixtapa. The community comes out to celebrate the New Year with fireworks. BUT, BE CAREFUL! There are many homes and condos with palm roofs, so we must safeguard surrounding properties!
