Semi-finals for Mexico’s 4th Annual Chef of the Year competition will be held on October 1st and 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. each day, at Barceló Hotel in Ixtapa. All activities, including conferences, cooking demonstration and the competition, are open to the public and free of charge.
The Chef of the Year competition (Concurso Concineo del Año de México CCMM) is designed by professional chefs and is one of the most prestigious gastronomical events in Mexico. Participants will have their recipes judged on factors such as the flavor, texture, nutritional quality, harmony of components, originality and the utilization of Mexican ingredients and cooking techniques.
This year-long competition that began in June 2013 consists of seven (7) Semi-final events, held in different parts of the country, leading up to the final competition to be held in Mexico City in June 2014. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is host to the second of the Semi-final competitions that will include 12 chefs from the states of Guerrero, Michoacán y Morelos.
Chef Rurik Salazar, the new Executive Chef at Capella Ixtapa Hotel won the first Semi-final event held in Leon, Guanajuato this past June. Now, the winner of this second Semi-final, along with the other semi-finalists in upcoming events, will compete with Chef Salazar in the final competition next summer.

During these two days, books will also be on sale: Cocinero del Año México 1ª edición (1st Edition of Chef of the Year) for 100 Pesos and Diccionario Enciclopédico de la Gastronomía Mexicana (Mexican Dictionary Encyclopedia of Gastronomy) for 500 Pesos.
