Many people around the world are becoming more aware of the “Costa Chica” Region of Mexico – the Black Mexico. The Costa Chica Region is comprised of the southern part of the state of Guerrero and the northern part of the state of Oaxaca. This area is known for its high concentration of African descendants.

The state of Guerrero, named after President Vicente Guerrero, the nation’s second president, is located on the Pacific Coast, and is just 2.5 hours by air from Houston, Texas. Guerrero has a population of about 3 million and has seven (7) regions (like counties or providences): Tierra Caliente, North, Central, Mountain, Costa Grande (in which Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is located), Acapulco, and Costa Chica.
