Costa Grande Real Estate–Planning for the Growth of Zihuatanejo

By: Douglas Hudson, Owner and Legal Consultant.

I first came to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo when I was only fourteen years old on a trip with my father. We visited all the well-known port cities in Mexico, but I knew on my first day that this place was different and special. My reason for believing this is not just based on the natural beauty; I was impressed by the people who are so kind and warm-hearted. I knew then that I would come back to this magical place.

My father was the owner of a real estate agency in Mammoth Lakes, California for over thirty-five years. He took me everywhere. By the age of eighteen, I had visited thirty-five (35) countries; at twenty-five, I’ve now visited over sixty countries. But, I‘ve always known that Zihuatanejo would be my home.

I came back to Mexico to complete my educational studies. In 2006, with my father’s encouragement, I followed in his footsteps and set up Costa Grande Real Estate at 62 Nicolas Bravo Street in Zihuatanejo. It was one of the worst times for the real estate business in this area, as the economy sunk, but we survived and prospered.

I see Zihuatanejo growing and modernizing as Mexico moves into the modern times. The Mexican economy is no longer divided into the two-class system of the rich and the poor. Mexico now has a growing middle class that demands that the country provides more modern services and luxuries. Americans, Canadians, and other foreigners also find Mexico an attractive investment and come to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo to build vacation and retirement homes.

So, in 2012, when my dad passed, I sold his real estate business in California and used the funds to complete my dream here in Zihuatanejo–the construction of a real estate office facility with on-site, bi-lingual attorneys, architects, structural engineers, notaries, etc. All professional real estate services under one roof!

This year, my dream became a reality when we broke ground for this new facility on Paseo de Pesador (the boardwalk), along the waterfront in Zihuatanejo. When completed in October 2014, the building will have a traditional Mexican image to blend with the “old” Zihuatanejo. We’re open for business now, even while under construction.
